Near the service area at the cash desk (where parents might need to talk with staff), we created the sound poster: a colourful mural of characters printed onto timber with conductive ink. Touching a character triggers a number of playful sounds, encouraging kids to explore the print. The novelty of interacting with a usually passive format proved very rewarding.
In amongst the product is the light up rocket. A big red button at kid-level fires a rocket to one of three destinations above the shelving. Bespoke pixel-mapped content and sound where played over the custom LED displays.
Built into the cash desk was the fun receipt printer: a giant mouth that prints out games or activities for kids to takeaway at the point of purchase, stopping kids from feeling left out of the process.
Interspersing the customer journey with moments of interaction is a great way to communicate the playful nature of the Zippy brand but it’s also improved and perpetuate the customer experience in store. This project went on to win gold for Innovation at the POPAI awards.
