Crystal created a film telling the journey of a urine sample and an interactive table app to expand on GSK’s involvement.
My main role on the project was to design the tablet app that had to cater for two target audiences; 11-14 year old’s and the worlds press.
Due to the high security nature of an anti doping lab, the media weren’t allowed anywhere near, so this was the only way for GSK to explain their huge investment. They also needed to use film and tablet app in their ‘science in sport’ program, designed to encourage school children to study science at university.
Fortunately there’s a lot of overlap between the two groups. Neither have a huge attention span, neither want to engage with over-wordy scientific language and both of them love a shiny bit of tech.
As well as interviews with those involved in the anti-doping process, the app included an interactive 3D Lab with a series of animations explaining the scientific equipment. Ranging from a relatively simple centrifuge to the mind bending liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, I worked closely with PHD students to try to distill the animations into a digestible but engaging format.
