Rick tells me he likes to churn his music through a series of digital to analogue then analogue to digital processes to produce the quality of sound he’s after. This Iceberg and the architectural forms were an experiment to try to recreate the harsh aesthetic of digital modelling in the more tactile format of paper. What I’m really trying to recreate is the aggressive “contrasty” light of simple 3D renders.
After modelling the objects in Rhino, I unfold the model into a net and cut it using my CNC plotter. This method of production not only allows me to produce work quickly but it should also give us the accuracy needed for the video’s post production.
The plan is to use the digital 3D model in post to help accurately map a layer of digital animation onto the surface of the paper model as it moves.
